THE STORY SO FAR

In January 2008 after taking a gap year out from college Ash White returned to Winterhill Comprehensive school to produce a Summer Show later that year. The show was a huge success with over one hundred and twenty 11-16 year olds participating and performing to an audience of over 750, across three nights.
It was because of the huge success of the Summer Show in July 2008, that one month later Ash began brainstorming ideas for future projects.

On 25th January 2009 after five months of preparation over 70 young people attended the first meeting and after a few weeks of auditions we had our final 40 members to begin rehearsals for our first production, “Dancing Through Life” A production written and directed by Ash White, choreographed and vocal coached by Kim Mellor, with assistance from Rachel Carter.
In Autumn and Winter 2009 the group performed two Christmas cabaret performances, giving opportunities for all members to showcase all their talents.

In June 2010 we were delighted to perform our debut performance at the Rotherham Civic Theatre – “Boogie Nights – The 70’s Musical!” The show proved to be a huge success and both nights were a sell out. Throughout last year Steps also performed for the Mayor of Rotherham 2010-2011, at the Rotherham Show, NODA North East Festival and at a remembrance concert for the late soldier who died in Afghanistan in July 2010, James Leveret. In November 2010 Steps Productions also performed “Simply the Best – Performances from the world of musicals” To conclude 2010 the members of Steps performed “Step Into Christmas!” for the community of Rotherham.

More recently in May 2011 a fundraising show was held to raise over £1,000 for this production – “One Night Only!” In July 2011 we performed "Annie Warbucks" at the Rotherham Civic Theatre. Great audiences, a fantastic band and brilliant costumes - the review in the advertiser stated that Steps Productions was a "credit to the town."
Over the last 2 and a half years we have gone from strength to strength.
We have funded our own needs by holding social and sponsored events, these have included: Steps Factor, Sponsored Dances, a Sponsored Swim, Wonder Woman’s 192 Mile Bike Ride to Skegness and back, Gameshow Marathons and Sponsored Walks. We have also bag packed at local stores Tesco, Morrisons, Asda and Marks and Spencers.
